Persistent fantasy

This contains the more-or-less up-to-date information regarding the IAWA-clone and fantasy gaming related to it.

The setting

There exist at least three separate cultural groups. Nations might be a wrong phrase to use, so I’ll avoid it. Geographical areas are also detailed below, as are some locations of significance.

Desert

An endless (more or less figuratively) sea of sand dunes, with some rocky outcroppings here and there.

An oasis and a hut

An oasis with a single hut constructed from slabs of sandstone. There are some items of sorcerous nature still inside. Nearby there is a small dungeon-cave, no empty of residents.

Nihai

Nihai is something of a Japan-clone. It is known that there is an emperor and that people of Nihai have common ancestry with the sedanei.

Sedanei

Sedanei are loosely inspired by mongols and the way natives are portrayed in Burrough’s Tarzan-books. They are horse-riding nomads who live in large plains and hills. Skilled archers and fighters when mounted. Sedanei worshipped a griffin residing atop a huge spire, but who has recently deserted them due to the actions of a few rogues.

The sedanei’s area and that of the ill-detailed cultural area with European influences has significant border and due to the actions of the aforementioned rogues there will be a war of some sort.

Unnamed but influenced by middle-age Europe

There is feudal society and shared border with the sedanei and are not very happy with the incoming war. There also was a recent war with some culture inspired by some oriental influences. Probably not Nihai. The war was something of a stalemate with many dead on both sides.

The battlefied

On hte battlefied there were many dead. There are the burned ruins of a house near the center of the field. Close to the site of the battle there also is a tavern (with a hidden passage to one room) and a monastery, with half a monastery for monks and the other half for nuns.

Named characters

The mechanical qualities of characters on the List are detailed here with possibly some notes on current whereabout or history. The Finnish names of the traits are included if the traits were originally written in that language.

Cadoc

A male treasure hunter, possibly of pseudo-European descent. Participated in looting the sacred spire of the sedonai, broke his bones there and secured the gryphon’s egg and the mysterious stone (ruby).

  • Unsavory 4 (Häikäilemätön)
  • Honest map 4 (Rehellinen kartta)

Chen Pong

Was there to supply gunpowder to Martoh after the battle between pseudo-Europe and pseudo-orientalism. End result was getting a chest of opals and gold, of which Lóng stole some. Of oriental (pseudo-Chinese) origin.

  • Merchant 4 (Kauppias)
  • Stone 5 (Kivi)
  • Fat 4 (Lihava)
  • Suspicious towards artists 1 (Epäluuloinen taiteilijoita kohtaan)
  • Rich 3 (Rikas)

Gez

A monster with the body of a human, head of a toad and poisonous limbs like those of a praying mantis, though less spiky. Loves Lóng.

  • Disfigured monster 3 (Epämuodostunut hirviö)

Grisnach

An alchemist who lived in the spire that was sacred to the sedanei and captured their gryphon god. Created the disfigured monster known as Gez. Was driven away by Kyo and Lóng. Lost his staff in the process.

  • Alchemist 5

Jin

Of oriental family, a travelling singer. Was enchanted by Martoh to partake in the rite that would open the gates to Hell.

  • Flutist 4
  • Contacts 3

Kyo

Born in Nihai, sometime in the past was involved with a sedanei girl but nothing too serious grew out of it, became something of a legendary fighter, lost one arm in the battle where much blood of pseudo-Europeans and pseudo-orientals was spilled, threw Martoh into Hell and got his spirit of death absorbed into his katana. Later was sent to a diplomatic mission, desecrated the sacred spire of the sedanei and hence caused a war between the sedanei and pseudo-Europeans.

  • Ronin 7
  • One armed 3
  • Fast 3
  • Suspicion towards vagabonds 2 (Epäluulo kiertolaisia kohtaan)
  • Demon sword 3
  • Scarred 1
  • Warmonger 2
  • Blasphemer 2

Lóng

Trained as ninja, though not part of a clan. Acquired significant wealth shortly after the bloody battle between pseudo-Europe and pseudo-oriental cultures. Drove away the holy gryphon of the sedanei, who think he is dead and know he is a blasphemer. Family lines probably lie somewhere close to Nihai.

Is followed or carries Gez the monstrous half-man, half-insect/toad.

  • Bad musician 6 (Huono muusikko)
  • Ninja-trained 3 (Ninja-koulutettu)
  • Liar 4 (Valehtelija)
  • Rescue the uninvolved 4 (Pelasta sivulliset)
  • Chen Pong is rich and dumb 1 (Chen Pong on rikas ja tyhmä)
  • Rich 2 (Rikas)
  • Sedanei-blasphemer-ghost (as Hûang) 3 (Sedanei-pyhäinhäpäisijä-aave (nimellä Hûang) 3)

Martoh

Of pseudo-European bloodline. Martoh is a (possibly mad) summoner and formidable fighter. Was about to open a gate to Hell after the bloody battle between pseudo-Europe and pseudo-whatever-oriental-culture-it-was. End result was losing his protective death spirit and being thrown into aforementioned Hell. Knows that Chen Pong, Kyo and Lóng were involved, though only knows merchant Pong and maybe Kyo by name.

At least had a group of entirely hairless young humans as servants.

  • Summoner 5 (Manaaja)
  • Fighter 4
  • Hairless 3
  • Servants 2 (palvelijat)
  • Glaodlakus bound to a blade 3
